July, flying by.

The month of July has really gone by quickly. Sorry I haven't posted in a while (especially to Granny and Poppy who I know live for these updates). Mama has been very tired lately as the new baby is stealing her energy!

Kyler went to his first movie. It was the free movie series that they have at Regal theaters on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings in the summer. I figured if he freaks out after 10 minutes and we have to leave, I won't mind since it was free. Anyway, he did great and sat through the whole movie. Of course, the giant popcorn helped. It was also Clifford and only 70 minutes long.

We had the annual family picnic with my Dad's side of the family so we got to see all the second cousins. I didn't get a shot of all the kids this time, but here is Kyler and Ethan diggin the big wheels. Fortunatly, Kyler doesn't care yet that he is on a GIRLS big wheel, as Olivia pointed out.

We've hosted and attended several playgroups this month and Kyler is actually starting to like playing with friends and maybe even getting to know some of the kids. He is also getting more interested in the babies, but is very gentle around them. Although, he always wants to smoochie and huggie them. I tell him, he has to wait for our baby to come for that.

Of course, getting in as much swim time as we can.

Today was my cousin's wife, Tina's baby shower. Again, like with Kyler, there are 4 of us cousins pregnant and all due within 2 months of each other. Here we are: all the pregos. Kristin, due 8/18, Tina, due 8/31, Tiffany, due 9/5, and me 10/16. The craziest thing is that the 3 of them are from the same family!

Future Dr. Kyler perhaps...???

I promise not to wait as long this time for the next post!

Run, Daddy, Run!

Chris decided last Sunday that he wanted to run the 5K at Good Neighbor Day on the 4th of July (that Friday). So, since he hadn't actually run since, oh I don't know...high school, he decided to run roughly 3 miles that night to see if he could. Of course, he did it and so he ran the race that Friday. Don't you know, Chris finished 265 out of over 900 5K runners and 17 out of 42 for men 30-34 years old. YEAH CHRIS!! You know, most people kind of train for these things, or at least run more than once in the past 14 years. I couldn't run 3 blocks right now if my life depended on it!

Kyler and I went to watch and it was pretty exciting. There was over 1700 runners for the 3 races: 5K, 10K, and 15K.

Enjoying the fun house later during a break in the rain. Of course, after coming down the slide, Kyler says his usual, "More, more, please" and tries to run right back into the fun house. Sorry kid, this isn't the park. These rides are $2.50 a pop. We were able to limit it to 2 and then distract with pizza.

Big Boy Bed

After weeks of researching, strategizing, and planning, we finally decided to put Kyler in his big boy bed on Friday. Not that he has been having problems in the crib, but just that we need him out of the crib so baby #2 can use it.

We waited for a weekend with no plans as we figured we would be getting very little sleep. We had some ideas for back up plans in case we ran into a lot of trouble but figured we would just try the usual routine first.

So that's what we did: bath, jammies, brush teeth, 2 stories and into the bed he went. I laid him down, covered him with the blanket, left the room, and NEVER HEARD A PEEP OUT OF HIM UNTIL 7:30 THE NEXT MORNING!!!!! Yes, I am serious. Its been that way every night since.

Naps are a little bit tougher, but just the same as they were in the crib. He always would play in his crib for a while (sometimes takes an hour) until he falls asleep. Same thing in the bed, except now, he can get out and get things to drag into bed. So we just have to be careful what we leave in his room: books-okay, emptying an entire new pack of 80 wipes into his bed- not okay. But no crying, fussing, or trying to get out of his room. YEAH KYLER!!!!

Here he is sleeping like a baby the first night. He slept across it up by the headboard. I guess that felt more like his crib. Now, he usually sleeps lengthwise but sometimes, upside down.
